PBIS — Positive Behavior Interventions & Support

The PBIS program at Kearny School is the perfect program to provide our students with a positive learning experience. Our Culturally Responsive Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports (PBIS) program is a decision-making framework to improve student academic and behavioral outcomes by using universal language and norms, consistent behavioral teaching practices, consistent behavioral response guidelines, and data to guide procedural and policy decisions. At Kearny our PBIS system is used throughout the school so students can expect universal norms in every area of the building. We use a reward system with points students can use to attend PBIS monthly events as well as spend in the reward store. Students respond well to positive reinforcement and praise. By acknowledging students when they engage in appropriate behaviors, students are more likely to continue the appropriate behaviors. The PBIS team also reviews and monitors student behavior concerns to identify needs and assist with necessary supports to help every student achieve success in following school norms.
Each student can earn points by any adult in the building for following our R.O.C.K. behavior norms.
